Ultrasound Leadership Academy

A 501(c)(3) founded in 2014, by Drs. Matthew Dawson, Michael Stone and Michael Mallin dedicated to building ultrasound leaders focusing on developing proficiency in point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) among medical professionals.

08/2022 – Present

Program Manager

Stepped down as board member to take a role as the Program Manager in order to become more involved with the online fellowship.

Continued my role as a professor faculty member and the lead professor, performing the majority of one-on-one virtual hangouts.

Revising pricing structure and organization to include ultrasound clip/image review to help with guidance on best practices for how to obtain adequate ultrasound windows.

01/2015 – 07/2022

Professor and Consultant

Functioned as a professor faculty member to provide personalized mentorship through monthly one-on-one sessions, addressing individual learning needs and ultrasound-related inquiries. This mentorship is integral to the ULA's 12-month curriculum, which encompasses over 20 ultrasound modalities.

Revamped entire curriculum by creating new lectures from scratch and recording the entire 12-month online on-demand curriculum (a total of 24 hours and 21 minutes of content). Led the creation of presentation materials, designing the majority of slides, independently recording all content, and executing most of the editing process.

Continued to create and update content via iterative process after the entire curriculum was redone.

Became a board member (in 2020).

Butterfly Compass

2021 – Present

Assist in QA of ultrasounds performed at Temecula Valley Hospital, along with 3 other ultrasound-trained faculty.

SonoClipShare

2015 – Present

I began to use an online HIPAA-compliant POCUS archiving and QA solution that was created by my now-business partner, Ben Smith. I performed QA on ultrasound clips that were uploaded by Ultrasound Leadership Academy fellows to the SonoClipShare cloud remotely. The fellows consisted of domestic as well as international fellows.

QPath Classic

2015 – 2016
2017 – 2021

As a fellow, I began to perform ultrasound quality assurance on all scans performed at the University of Kentucky, Utilizing Qpath as an ultrasound as a wireless POCUS imaging software solution. When I returned a year later, I took over the process and completely revamped the entire process, adding formalized scoring systems, formalized criteria for appropriate scanning and began documentation of the ultrasound feedback (which was not done before).

External USB drive export

2016 – 2017

When I co-founded the first-ever ultrasound fellowship at the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga, Department of Emergency Medicine, our Point of care ultrasound (POCUS) machines were not connected to an EMR. We would download the studies from our ultrasound machines onto a hard drive and review on a separate computer.
